What Exactly Does an Auto Insurance Broker Do?
By: Ayu Wuryandari
What is auto insurance broker? Auto insurance broker is someone who is allowed to sell auto insurance policies and take responsibility about it. There are several requirements to be a broker and they may be different in every country. Basically, a broker is an auto insurance agent with more responsibility.
An auto insurance broker can do the tasks of an auto insurance agent such as offering you a quote and helping you in other matters due to the policy. However, an auto insurance broker can actually write the policy that you are being sold.
The main difference between an auto insurance agent and an auto insurance broker is that the broker can supervise the agents and open his own business. In most states, auto insurance agents cannot operate if they are not under the umbrella of an auto insurance broker. Another difference is that anybody can become an auto insurance agent, but to be become a broker he must be experienced for many years.
If you are in doubt about whom you are facing, you would better ask. Many auto insurance agents will tell you that you do not need to talk to an auto insurance broker because they feel they can help you with anything you need. But, if you are not satisfied with their helps you can insist to speak with the broker.
There are also auto insurance brokers who have specialization with less expensive policies. But, even the most experienced broker will not be able to beat the quotes that you can attain online all by yourself.
The reason is simple. Even the best auto insurance broker cannot eliminate his fee from the quotes he returns to you. So, if you use his services, you will be paying some of that. However, if you prepare your time to purchase policy online you can eliminate the expense. This will lead to a less expensive auto insurance policy for you.
